An eleven-day expedition aboard the all-suite MS Island Sky, which carries 118 guests, from Mumbai through Goa, Mangalore and Cochin to Galle, Hambantota and Colombo. The itinerary takes in Mumbai's Jewish quarter and its 500-year-old community, Cochin's historic synagogue, and wildlife safaris in Bundala and Yala National Parks, where the draw is leopards and wetland birdlife.
The ship is chartered in full for the group, and Shabbat is spent docked in Cochin rather than under way, with havdalah before sailing on. Dr. Henry M. Abramson, Dean of Lander College for Men at Touro University, sails with the KRC Jewish Explorers lecture series.
Kosher River Cruise's published standard is Glatt Kosher throughout, with all meat glatt, all dairy cholov yisroel and pas yisroel for all breads and cakes. They name no outside certifying agency - meals are prepared and supervised by their own kosher chefs under head chef Malcolm Green - so confirm the supervision with them before booking.
