Start with the level, not the destination
Most kosher directories list every sailing together as "kosher cruises", which is how a family books what they believe is a kosher cruise and discovers on day two that it means sealed trays for a week. The three levels are genuinely different products.
- Fully kosher charter — the whole ship kashered and supervised, shul on board, Shabbat observed ship-wide.
- Kosher dining room — a mainstream cruise with a separate supervised kitchen, mashgiach and usually a morning minyan.
- Kosher meals on request — sealed, pre-packaged meals on an otherwise standard sailing.
Every sailing above carries its level on the listing, before you click, and you can filter by it directly. Our full explainer covers what each is like in practice and who each one suits.
What to confirm before booking
Whichever level you are considering, get these in writing:
- Who the hechsher is, by name
- Whether a mashgiach is physically on board for the whole sailing
- Whether the food is fresh or pre-packaged
- What is arranged for Shabbat — minyan, keys, lifts
- Where the kosher dining room is and at what sittings it serves
- What happens in port on Shabbat and yom tov
